Welcome to HotPop Productions, LLC’s privacy policy!!! HotPop Productions, LLC
(we call ourselves "HotPop" for short) is glad that you have taken
this moment to check it out because we think it is important for our visitors
to understand what kind of personal information HotPop collects from you, how
we collect it and how we use it. Read on!!!
1. Is HotPop membership necessary?
HotPop membership is necessary only if you want to participate in HotPop’s
interactive activities which includes chatting in our chat rooms, posting
messages on our message boards, qualifying for giveaways and more.
Nevertheless, you do not need to be a HotPop member to enjoy the website.
Non-members can still surf the website, read the articles, listen to the radio
station, get their horoscope and more.
2. What kind of personal information does HotPop collect from members?
The kind of personal information we collect from you includes stuff like your
name, postal mailing address, e-mail address, telephone number, age, birth
date, gender, hobbies, interests, what you like to buy and how you prefer to
pay for things (like by credit card or cash). Basically, the kind of
information that lets HotPop know who visits our website, how to communicate
with them and what kind of things they might want to know about. During
registration we will ask you for your birth date, age, e-mail address,
username and password (and if you are under 13, we will ask for some contact
information for your parent or legal guardian). We may seek to collect more
personal information while you use our website (like when you enter a HotPop
sweepstakes or participate in one of our promotions or chats). Likewise, if
you (or your parent or legal guardian) contact us, we will probably keep a
record of that correspondence.
3. What is a "cookie" and what does HotPop’s do with them?
A cookie is a small data file that a website can write to your hard drive for
internal reporting and record keeping purposes. Generally, HotPop uses cookies
to measure activity on the website (how many people entered a sweepstakes or
visited an area on the website). Cookies also allow us to make improvements
and updates to the website based on which sweepstakes, promotions or subject
areas are popular and which are not. In addition, cookies allow HotPop to
store and retrieve login information such as "remembering" your
login name (even if you don’t), identifying the websites you visit and
assisting us in processing your purchase orders. As part of offering and
providing tailored and personal service, HotPop may use cookies to store and
track information about you in order to send you bulletins that correspond to
your interests.
We may match information obtained from cookies with data provided by you or
collected by third parties and analyze this data in the aggregate (to learn
broad statistics about our members) and individually (which page you visit the
most). This information lets us further personalize our services to you. We
also provide aggregate analysis of our users (only as a group) to prospective
partners, advertisers, and other third parties. We do this to help us bring
you first-rate, personalized services, free of charge.
You may occasionally get cookies from our advertisers (as explained in Section
7), which is standard in the Internet industry. HotPop does not control these
cookies, and these cookies are NOT subject to HotPop’s privacy policy.
Remember that you can disable cookies on your computer by indicating that you
do not want your computer to accept them in the preferences or options menus
in your web browser.
4. What type of information does HotPop share with advertisers, sponsors or
any other third party?
Aggregated personal information is the type of information that HotPop
supplies to third parties and even then, it will only be supplied in a format
where individual users are not personally identified see Section 5. Because we
do not share specific personal information with our sponsors, partners or
advertisers, they may affix a link to their site or an option box within a HotPop
sweepstakes, article or advertisement, whereby double-clicking will entitle
you to "more information" or a "special offer" (or
something of the like) and entitle them to your e-mail address or other
information. It is important for you to note that any information you supply
them by "opting in" this way is not subject to HotPop’s privacy
policy. This subject is further addressed in Section 7.
EXAMPLE: We may tell our
advertisers statistics like 14,926 teens watched our webcast or that 2,962
of our visitors clicked on your advertisement. These sort of statistics
might include information about your likes and dislikes but we don’t give
anyone outside the HotPop family any information about you personally.
5. What is aggregated
information and what does HotPop do with it?
Aggregated information is personal information about you that we combine with
personal information about everyone else that visits our website so that we
know generally what you (and people like you) like about our website. When you
visit HotPop, we collect some information about you either via cookies
(explained in Section 3) or by asking you directly. We do this so that we can
try to improve your overall experience when you visit us the next time. We
also collect information about traffic patterns on the website, like how many
people log on and at what times, which page is most frequently visited, and
what type of events you (and people like you) think are cool and interesting.
HotPop may also use your personal information to match the advertisements and
content to your specific interests. However, the advertisers on the HotPop
website will not see or have access to your individual account information. In
fact, except for the very specific circumstances provided in Section 6 of this
privacy policy, HotPop will not disclose, sell or rent any of the personally
identifying information on any individual user provided to us to any third
party (including our advertisers, sponsors or other partners) without your
"OK." This issue is discussed in Section 4 of this privacy policy,
but the following is an example of how HotPop uses aggregated information.
EXAMPLE: HotPop may tell a
music magazine that advertises on our site a statistic like 65% of our
members age 13-18 think electronic music is really cool. We would not tell
the magazine that you in particular like or dislike electronic music.
However, if you do like electronic music, we may e-mail you some information
about where to buy, see, hear or talk about this music but you’ll never
get any of this information from any other company based on the information
you give us Get it? If you don’t get it click here
and e-mail us).
6. Are there ANY circumstances where HotPop may use my personal information
without my consent?
There are a limited number of circumstances that HotPop will disclose your
personal information. HotPop will disclose your personal information if it is
necessary to protect your safety (or the safety of other HotPop’s visitors),
necessary to protect the security or integrity of the HotPop website or if we
are required to do so by law. HotPop will take reasonable steps to limit the
scope of any of these disclosures. If you or your parent (or legal guardian)
do not understand this concept click here for further explanation.
7. What about the privacy policies and the use of cookies by links or
advertisers?
When you visit the HotPop website you will be exposed to all kinds of
opportunities to link to other websites. Links can be from advertisers,
content providers and/or partners who may use HotPop’s logo and/or style
because of a co-branding agreement but which may not follow the same privacy
policies as HotPop. Advertisements can be placed on any page, in any
configuration and in any region on the website. If you click on an
advertisement or other link, you will be transported outside of HotPop’s
service to an entirely different website.
HotPop may contain links to other content providers’ websites. These
websites are also not under the control of HotPop and HotPop is not
responsible for any content on a linked website nor for their privacy
policies. Links provided by HotPop are for your convenience only and the
inclusion of links does not mean that HotPop endorses the website.
It is important that you are careful about where you go on the web and
advisable to check the terms of use and privacy policy of all the websites
that you visit. If you are unsure as to where you are on the web, check the
URL address. But remember if the URL is not www.HotPop.biz then HotPop cannot
control how these other websites use cookies, collect and disclose personal
information or implement their privacy policies.
If you do not want your personal information collected and used
inappropriately, do not disclose personal information and/or participate in
the promotion, contest or sweepstakes. For your own information and
protection, keep in mind that whenever you voluntarily disclose personal
information on message boards, through e-mail, or in chat areas, that
information can be collected and used by others (and that there are people out
there that actually collect and use it). For instance, if you post personal
information in public places, you may receive unsolicited e-mail messages.
Please think before you post any information online.
8. HotPop’s Special Rules, Procedures and Policies for Visitors under 13.
Individuals under 13 can visit our website but will be restricted and blocked
from any page that requires personal information to enter unless you follow
the procedures adopted by HotPop (explained below).
HotPop is Compliant with the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act of
1998 (we call it "COPPA" for short). HotPop has implemented all
kinds of processes and procedures so that we can proudly call ourselves
compliant with COPPA. So if you are under 13 years of age this stuff applies
to you! COPPA is a law that makes it illegal for HotPop to collect information
or communicate with kids under the age of 13 without their parent’s (or
legal guardian’s) written consent. Your participation in chats, focus
groups, sweepstakes, promotions, contests or other things that require you to
submit personal information on the HotPop website are "off limits"
unless we get the "OK" from your parent (or legal guardian). HotPop
does not want to leave you out of all the fun, we just need you to help us get
permission from your folks. It’s pretty easy just Click here and give us
your parent’s (or legal guardian’s) home postal address and e-mail address
(if they have one). We will send them a copy of this privacy policy, a
registration form and an authorization form. The authorization form is for
your parent (or legal guardian) to fill out and sign, the registration form is
for you to fill out and sign, the privacy policy is for you and your parents
(or legal guardian) to keep. Once we receive the completed forms via First
Class Mail (also known as snail mail), we will put it in a safe file, register
you as an official HotPop member and send you a friendly e-mail to let you
know you’re in the club.
If you are under 13, HotPop will not require you to disclose more information
than is reasonably necessary for you to participate in an activity.
It’s for your own good. This might seem like a bit of a drag but it
is the only way we can legally allow you membership to HotPop. Besides, it is
really important that your parent or (or legal guardian) know and consent to
you being a member of this website (as well as any other website). There are a
lot of strange and unscrupulous people out there in cyberspace who use the
information you give them in ways you (or your parents or legal guardian)
would not want them to. HotPop does not want to use your personal information
in any way you (or your parents or legal guardian) do not want us to, and that
is why we seek authorization and consent in two ways (via e-mail and postal
mail). We want to be doubly sure that your parent (or legal guardian) know
that you want to be a member of this website and that they are OK with that.
See, if they are OK with you being a member of this website (and they tell us
so) then you’ll be able to chat about your favorite things, watch premier
webcasts, listen to cool music and read smart articles. We think that if your
parents or (or legal guardian) know that we are concerned about your safety
and privacy and that you really want to be a part of the HotPop club,
they’ll feel more comfortable about you visiting our website in particular
and surfing the net generally.
Your parents (or legal guardian), upon verification, also have the right to
review your personal information, ask to have it deleted and refuse to allow
collection or use of your personal information, just send a letter to: HotPop
Productions, LLC, PO Box 1877, New York, NY 10156-1877
9. HotPop’s Tips To Protect Your Personal Information.
Your HotPop profile is password-protected. The best way to keep your personal
information secure is to keep your password secret--do not give your password
to anyone. If you share your computer with other people, we recommend that you
sign out of your HotPop account and close your browser window when you are
done. Further, do not allow cookies to remember your ID name and password as
"cookies" will enable someone else to sign on as you.
We make every effort to ensure that your information is secure on our system.
Unfortunately, no data transmission over the Internet is guaranteed to be 100%
secure. Consequently, we cannot guarantee the security of any information you
transmit to us, and you do so at your own risk.
By using this website,
you signify your assent to HotPop’s privacy policy. If you do not agree to
this policy, please do not use our website. HotPop’s privacy policy might
change from time to time and your continued visits to HotPop after such a
change signifies that you agree to abide by the new privacy policy. So, you
should check out the privacy policy often to make sure you assent to it.
